The controversial Kim Kardashian, a rubbish porn star with a maahooosive butt or narcissistically beautiful woman (with the help of make-up artists and hair stylist by her side at all times), we can't deny she usually looks pretty damn good. Not necessarily a fan of what she does, but I do admire her determination to always look picture perfect. With that in mind, I have decided to try and recreate her look mostly using relatively cheap products.
So I thought I'll show what I have managed to achieve before I explain how I've done it in case you don't like it and don't want to waste time reading my blabbering about make-up and contouring! More pictures at the end of the post.
I also thought I'll show what a real professional job looks like:

So lets begin, first of all I google'd and youtube'd many tutorials, of which I can say that I found two, that were simple and easy to follow. There is lots of Kim Kardashian look tutorials, but the two that I have picked out are by professional and experienced make-up artists, so probably save yourself some time by scavenging through all the home made ones and look at the ones below:
A video tutorial by Vegas_Nay:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saMyRvvHFTE&list=UUatI2zOJvBf5AM-V7GLGC2g
and
A video tutorial by Pretty Beautiful Things:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0UXiVdywvs
So I watched both of those tutorials and kind of made up a technique of my own. First of all the difference between these two tutorials is that Vegas_Nay tutorial is of a girl who's got quite a few imperfections (like myself), whereas Pretty Beautiful Things tutorial is with a girl who's got very nice skin, so I would advise to pick accordingly which tutorial you will follow more. But bellow is what I decided to do!
So first of all, skin preparation is extremely important, my skin is quite oily, yet sometimes quite dry (my skin has too many mood swings, I know!) and spot prone, so I wash it using Clinique soap and use Garnier mattifying cream. I wait for it to dry and then I use exactly the same primer as Vegas_Nay, Maybelline Baby Skin, its pretty damn good considering the price. I let the primer set in for a few minutes and then I applied Burberry Velvet Foundation (I have done a review previously if wondering whether its good) using MUA F2 Stippling Brush. Just quickly, off topic, I've only recently discovered stippling brushes, so this is the only one I've used and have nothing to compare to, apart from a flat foundation brush, and I can honestly say it has changed my life, I hardly ever use a flat foundation brush anymore! Stippling brush allows a much better coverage and doesn't soak up all the foundation, guys try it! And now is where the fun begins of the contouring! After trying to apply a lighter concealer (from the kit MUA Pro-Base Conceal and Brighten Kit) under my eyes using a wet brush, a wet sponge is way better, but I didn't have any at the time (TIP: if a brush is wet, it will not absorb too much concealer and will leave most of it on your skin) I had realised that my foundation is rubbing in too much with the concealer, making it difficult to create a good contour, so I have decided to put some ELF Translucent powder and then try to contour again, best decision I have made! I didn't need as much concealer then! However keep in mind that I have lots of imperfections and probably used more foundation than any of you will need, therefore you may want to skip the powder. So, the kit that I used to contour is MUA Pro-Base the image is below, since it has a dark, a light and a rosy shade, you can contour, highlight and blush your cheeks!

To give you an idea of where I applied dark and light colour this is a diagram that I have followed:
(Source: http://nikimcewan.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/photo.png)
However, and this is a big however, I did not want my contouring to completely change my face features, as I have seen so many pictures around where people are transformed from a girl normal girl next door to a girl who all of a sudden got Rihanna's lips, Megan Fox's eyes and Angelina Jolie's jawline! And I just want to enhance my face features. So the shades that I have used weren't so drastically contrasting, meaning that I have achieved a more natural, glowy (probably not a real word lol) look.
Moving on, after I contoured my face, I again applied ELF Translucent Powder on my face, not a lot just a tad bit to let the contouring set. I know this may sound like I have been applying powder the wrong way round, buttt sometimes powder applied before cream/liquid based makeup will keep it in place for longer. It's a brilliant tip that I have found from gossmakeupartist tutorial:
A video tutorial on a different way of using powder:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyQsVyGadbY
The MUA Pro-Base Kit has the blusher tone, so if you like you could just apply that on your cheeks before you powder and then contouring would be done for you, but recently I fell in love with ELF Baked Blush in Peachy Cheeky. The blusher is shimmery peach colour and its not too bright, which I really like for contoured looks, since you don't want too many different colours and tones on your face! I also apply my all time favourite MUA Highlighter (I will have to do a review on this, as it's amazing!) just above my cheeks and tiny bit of it above my eyebrows to give a dewy look.
So this is the look that I came out with:
I thought I will share photos of the look with my hair up and down.
....another picture with those life saving filters!
And one in totally different lighting (I was in bed watching a movie lol):
Keeping in mind that I'm not a make-up artist, I think I have done a pretty good job, its not perfect, but I've achieved exactly what I set out. I got a contoured look thats quite natural, apart from the massive eyelashes and dark eyes lol!
So as promised I will list all the products that I have used for contouring (if anyone would like to find out what I use for eyebrows, eyes, lips etc. please comment):
- Burberry Velvet Foundation (Shade: Trench No.203)
- MUA Pro-Base Conceal & Brighten Kit (Shade: Beige-Golden)
- E.L.F Baked Blush (Shade: Peachy Cheeky)
- E.L.F High Definition Powder (Shade: Translucent)
- MUA F2 Stippling Brush
Most of these products are available in my ebay shop!
I hope you have liked my post. Please share this page, comment and contact me with any enquiries!
